Our BPSO Journey: The Road Map to Success!
On April 1st 2015, St Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) was selected by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) Candidate.
SJCG is dedicated to ensuring care and services are based on evidence informed practice and research by bringing research and best practice to point of care and service delivery which is evident in our strategic priorities and associated action plans. SJCG's Nursing Strategy ,which encompasses three main themes; The Nursing Voice; Nursing Professionalism, and Role Clarity & Scope of Practice and the dynamic partnership with the RNAO will build a culture of best practices into the organization by developing capacity and disseminate key learning's that will enhance sustainability, positively impact client outcomes and promote quality in nursing practice.
Best Practice Guidelines
Based on our Strategic Priorities and our Quality Improvement Plan, SJCG will be focusing on the implementation of five RNAO Best Practice Guidelines across the organization, creating an evidenced-based culture into daily practices. The following five RNAO Best Practice Guidelines (BPG's) have been identified as priorities for both our multi-sector organization and community at large:
- Establishing Therapeutic Relationships
- Caregiving Strategies for Older Adults with Delirium, Dementia and Depression
- Screening for Delirium, Dementia and Depression in Older Adults
- Prevention of Falls and Fall Injuries in the Older Adult
- Strategies to Support Self-Management in Chronic Conditions: Collaboration with Clients.

To help support the implementation of Best Practice Guidelines, St. Joseph's Care Group is recruiting Best Practice Guideline (BPG) Champions. All health care professionals are qualified to become a BPG Champion! BPG Champions are important members of the BPSO team assist and influence best practice guideline implementation in their areas and across SJCG. Visit the RNAO website for workshop opportunities.
