Play it Safe
Gambling is betting money or something of value on an event with an unknown outcome.
When playing games, remember:
- HOPE to win, EXPECT to lose.
- Decide on a LIMIT of time and money BEFORE you play.
- Take lots of breaks.
- Play with money you can afford to lose.
- Treat gaming as entertainment, it is not a way to make money.
- Do not play when stressed or depressed.
- Drinking alcohol and betting will mean POOR decisions.
- Don't always play alone.
- Learn the game before you bet.
Problem gambling means having many difficulties in limiting money and/or time spent on gambling, which leads to negative consequences for the person gambling, others they know and/or for the community.
People with gambling problems:
- Will play out of boredom, loneliness, grief, depression, anxiety, to win back lost money, to feel better about themselves, or to avoid people or situations.
- Can be secretive about gambling, it is easy to hide.
- Will only talk about their wins.
- Spend bigger and bigger amounts of money when playing.
- Lose time normally spent at work or school and with family and/or friends.
- Often go to extremes to get money to gamble.
