Length: Six Sessions
Time: One and a half hours per week
*It is helpful to attend Stress Management Group prior to attending Understanding Anxiety Group.*
Rationale
Research has shown that anxiety disorders are a significant mental health problem in our society. This group provides approaches that help people understand anxiety, provide coping strategies that are effective in managing anxiety, and then assists one to adopt a more relaxed, balanced and healthy approach to life.
Objectives
Throughout the six sessions offered, participants will:
- Review "what is anxiety", what precipitates it
- Review deep relaxation, encourage use of journal
- Review coping strategies/alternatives when anxious or close to panic
- What are the assumptions, beliefs, attitudes that may be robbing participant of joy and freedom
- Discuss setbacks, myths, facts
