Living With A Loss Group
Course Description
Program: Personal Development Program
Length: Six Sessions
Time: One and half-hours once a week
Rationale
Unresolved grief affects the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of persons who have experienced a significant loss or losses. In general, society does not acknowledge or understand the extent of the impact of loss on individuals. As well, many kinds of losses are not recognized as significant even by the person who has experienced them. Loss of employment, loss of physical function, loss of health, loss of relationships, and losses connected to childhood abuse and/or family dysfunction are some examples. Learning about the "normal" process of grief, and being allowed to share personal experiences of loss facilitates the ability for participants to move forward in their journey; to let go of the past and to be able to invest fully in the future.
Objectives
This course is designed to assist participants in understanding and processing issues of loss effectively. Information will be shared about the physical/emotional and spiritual manifestations of grief, and the tasks which are necessary to complete before a person will experience closure. The primary focus of the group is education related to the grieving process.
