Program: Personal Development Program
Length: Eight Sessions
Time: One and half-hours once a week
Rationale
Spirituality is basic to all people, regardless of religion, race or ethnic background. It is a broader concept than religion. It may encompass beliefs and needs unrelated to organized religion. It may refer to the fundamental orientation of a person's life, to that which motivates and inspires the person. Spirituality may be referred to as that which gives meaning to life and assists the individual to cope in times of stress or suffering. It involves relationships with self, others and with the Holy, however one defines it. Related themes are: developing awareness, Forgiveness and Reconciliation, Letting go of the past, Self-Acceptance and Living Fully in the Moment. In order to facilitate healing, it is helpful to increase one's awareness of their spirituality and to discover tools which will facilitate spiritual growth.
Objectives
The focus of the group is to explore the participants' spirituality through a variety of reflections and discussions. Each session will have a theme which will be explored from a spiritual perspective using such mediums as music, poetry, meditations, sacred writings and visualization. It will not be based on a particular religious/faith tradition but could include ideas, readings from different traditions and philosophies.
