Answers
1. How long does a brain injury last?
The effects of a brain injury can be as varied and unique as the individuals who sustain them. Since brain injuries occur in different areas of the brain with varying degrees of severity, no two people will be affected in the same way, or will they respond in the same way to treatment.
An injury to the brain may affect a person in several ways including his personality, thinking, communication, or mobility. The duration of treatment and rehabilitation will vary according to the needs of the individual.
2. Our family member is being referred to St. Joseph's Care Group or rehabilitation following an acquired brain injury. Can we visit the unit prior to being transferred?
Family members are encouraged to tour the unit, to familiarize themselves with the environment and meet with 1 - 2 team members prior to transfer from acute care to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
