Youth Addiction Programs

Residential Treatment

Residential Treatment is a 5 week program geared toward youth who are struggling with substance use. It utilizes a holistic approach to recovery which focuses on changing behaviour through examining beliefs and values.

The program is for youth aged 16-20 who have been assessed as using substances with negative impacts on one or more areas of their lives. Typically youth who enter the Residential Treatment Program may have tried outpatient counselling services, but have been unable to meet their goals for a variety of reasons. This program uses a harm reduction, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) approach to recovery, which focuses on changing behaviour through examining beliefs and values. It includes group therapy, individual counselling, education sessions, life skill development, introduction to self-help, leisure and recreation opportunities, and relapse prevention. The multi-disciplinary team consists of addiction counsellors, youth workers, a therapeutic recreationist, a problem gambling counsellor, and a spiritual advisor. Community resources are brought in to supplement the programming, including nurse practitioners, consulting psychologist and the Indigenous Traditional Healing team through St. Joseph's Care Group.
