Health, Safety & Risk

Health Safety & Risk is a service within the Human Resource division and promotes the internal responsibility system which holds everyone accountable for health and safety in the workplace. Occupational Health and Wellness, Infection Prevention and Control, Client Safety, Employee Safety, WSIB Claims Management, Early and Safe Return to Work, Emergency Preparedness and Risk Management are programs within this service.

Occupational Health & Wellness Team

Occupational Health and Wellness Team is accountable and responsible for the management, development and implementation of Occupational Health Services, for all employees and volunteers within the Care Group. Occupational Health works with the Wellness Committee to create a workplace environment that encourages the promotion of employee awareness and involvement of health and wellness initiatives.

Infection Prevention & Control

The Infection Prevention & Control Program is based on evidence based practices and procedures. The team strives to prevent and reduce the spread of infections between health care workers, clients/residents, and visitors, while maintaining a focus on providing our clients/residents with the highest standard of care

Client Safety

The Client Safety program is as an organizational process that reduces error and aims at freedom from accidental injury.

Employee Safety

Employee Safety acts as a resource, and provides a health & safety program, in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Early & Safe Return to Work (ESRTW)

Early and Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) provides guidance and assistance when an employee is injured or is off ill. The goal of the Early and Safe Return to Work program is to return injured or ill employees to work safely as soon as possible.

Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness collaborates with the Emergency Planning committee and management to ensure strategic organizational management processes are in place to protect clients, staff and assets of SJCG from loss or harm as a result of an emergency.

WSIB & Claims Management

WSIB and Claims Management service is responsible for accident reporting, managing workers' compensation claims, and appealing claims. The program also assists in managing the return to work process and reducing employer compensation costs and ensure that SJCG is in compliance with the WSIB (Workplace Safety Insurance Board).

Risk Management

Risk Management ensures that there are processes to identify, quantify and put measures in place for risks to which SJCG is exposed. Risk management also works to create and implement effective plans to prevent losses or reduce the impact if a loss occurs.
