Resident Assessment Instrument-Mental Health (RAI-MH)

RAI-MH - Quality Applications

Quality Indicators for Mental Health

Each participating facility receives information from the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) on a quarterly basis about Quality Indicators. This information is derived from the data submitted. The Quality Indicators for Mental Health offer an opportunity for comparison between like participating facilities and offer an opportunity for informed planning and decision making.

Outcome Measures for Mental Health

Each participating facility receives information from the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) on a quarterly basis on clinical scales that are embedded with the Resident Assessment Instrument-Mental Health. Like the Quality Indicators, the results of the clinical scales are derived from the data submitted. Each of the scales reported are reflective of the clinical status of the patient population served by individual facilities.

The System of Classification of In-Patient Psychiatry (SCIPP)

An integral component of the Resident Assessment Instrument-Mental Health (RAI-MH) is a case mix algorithm called the System of Classification of In-Patient Psychiatry (SCIPP). The information required for the calculation of this algorithm is derived from the clinical information entered into the Minimum Data Set for Mental Health. Individuals displaying similar clinical descriptions are grouped into categories reflective of the resources used. The health care system in Ontario is moving toward the use of case mix in order to equitably allocate health care resources.
