Frank Murphy Community Centre Will Close This Summer

St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) announces that the Frank Murphy Community Centre located at St. Joseph's Heritage will close effective July 1, 2010 when spring programming concludes.
The future of the Frank Murphy Community Centre has been under review for the past several years due to growing operating deficits. In addition, since Frank Murphy Community Centre is over 30 years old, capital costs to maintain the facility are significant. In view of these circumstances, St. Joseph's Care Group Board of Directors made the difficult decision to close Frank Murphy Community Centre.
Tracy Buckler, President & CEO, SJCG, says "I understand that this news will be upsetting to some, as so many members of the community have utilized this facility over the past 30 years. It is not our intention to leave Frank Murphy Community Centre empty therefore we will immediately begin to explore opportunities for potential future use of the space."
St. Joseph's Care Group has been working closely with the City of Thunder Bay - Recreation and Culture Division to ensure many programs previously provided by the Frank Murphy Community Centre will continue to be available through other community pools.
