Sister Honoured in Naming of New Building

In recognition of the long history and service to the community of Thunder Bay by The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie, St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) is pleased to name its newest building the SISTER LEILA GRECO APARTMENTS.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph's Care Group, we are honoured to name the new apartment complex in Sister Leila Greco's name." says Ray Halverson, Chair, SJCG Board of Directors. "We wish to preserve the history of the Sisters of St. Joseph and continue their vision through the development of the Sister Leila Greco Apartments."

The new 132-unit supportive housing apartments are currently under construction next to the Sister Margaret Smith Centre and Hogarth Riverview Manor on North Lillie Street.

Sister Shirley Anderson, General Superior, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie, noted, "It was through Sister Leila's vision that St. Joseph's Heritage was built in 1979 as "A Place for All Seasons", many years ahead of its time. It is our understanding that the Centre of Excellence for Integrated Seniors Services (CEISS) will maintain Sister Leila's original vision and support many people for years to come."

Once complete, the new CEISS complex will be similar to St. Joseph's Heritage; providing a range of services to enable people to remain independent and continue to live in their own homes as long as possible. The SISTER LEILA GRECO APARTMENTS are scheduled to open in the winter of 2012.

Since 1884, the Sisters have served with Care, Compassion and Commitment. We are proud to continue this tradition, and are pleased to name our newest building in honour of Sister Leila."
