Construction Begins at St. Joseph's Hospital

St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) announces the beginning of the new East Wing Construction Project at St. Joseph's Hospital. The new wing will provide space for the Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Program and many corporate departments and services.
The Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Program is designed to meet the needs of people with serious mental illness. Evidence and best practices have guided the planning and design of this new wing which will facilitate the provision of excellent care in the most appropriate environment.
The first phase of the project includes demolition of the former Sister Margaret Smith Centre, followed by construction of the new wing. Both the demolition and construction will be completed as green initiatives following the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) framework.

The resulting structure will provide a healthy and healing environment for treating people with serious mental illness."
As part of the construction site, St. Joseph's Hospital main parking lot will be completely fenced off on Monday, March 26, 2012, and will remain closed for the duration of the project.
Clients and visitors to St. Joseph's Hospital are asked to use the Waterfront District Parkade and enter through the south entrance from the 2nd level of the parkade. The designated drop off and pick up entrance is on Algoma Street which has been widened to allow improved vehicle flow. Vehicles cannot be left unattended in this area in order to provide access to emergency vehicles.
