St. Joseph's Care Group Honours Canadian Hospital Librarian of the Year

St. Joseph's Care Group is proud to honour Sophie Regalado, Manager of Library Services, as she was presented with the Canadian Hospital Librarian of the Year Award on June 14, 2012 at the closing banquet of the Canadian Health Libraries Association/ Association des bibliothèques de la santé du Canada (CHLA/ABSC) Annual Conference in Hamilton, Ontario.
Since 2004 when Sophie began her career as a health sciences librarian at St. Joseph's Care Group, she has made a significant impact locally, provincially and nationally.
At St. Joseph's Care Group, among her many accomplishments, Sophie: successfully merged two separate libraries while fostering a team environment; created the first Library Users' Advisory Subcommittee to offer dynamic user-driven library services; spearheaded corporate-wide access to electronic biomedical databases; built institution-wide awareness about copyright issues; collaborated with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine to bring St. Joseph's Care Group its first Online Public Access catalogue; was a site coordinator for a research project examining the impact of providing ready-made evidence-based information resources to nurses via mobile devices.
At the provincial level, Sophie's contribution to the Ontario Health Libraries Association includes serving as Association Webmaster in 2005-2011 and currently as President. She earned the Ontario Health Libraries' Association's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2009, and also served as President of the Northwestern Ontario Health Libraries Association in 2007-2008.
At a national level, Sophie served as the Journal of the Canadian Health Libraries' Association/ Journal de l'Association des bibliothèques de la santé du Canada Assistant Editor (2007-2009), Editor (2010-2011) Editor-in-Chief (2011 to present). During her term on the editorial team, Sophie revamped the editorial model and made numerous improvements to the management processes of the journal. Sophie is a Senior Member of Medical Library Association's Academy of Health Information Professionals.
