St. Joseph's Care Group is pleased to announce that construction is now underway for the Centre of Excellence for Integrated Seniors' Services (CEISS) Phase 2 ~ Addition of Long-Term Care Beds to Hogarth Riverview Manor, located on Lillie Street.

Ray Halverson, Chair, Board of Directors, St. Joseph's Care Group is excited to see the project begin, “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am extremely pleased that the long-term care addition is underway. This new addition is greatly needed to begin to meet the increasing demand for long-term care services in Northwestern Ontario.”

The Centre of Excellence for Integrated Seniors' Services will be a model for the rest of the province in the provision of integrated services for better seniors' healthcare. The first phase of CEISS was the 132-unit supportive housing building (Sister Leila Greco Apartments) which is now complete. Phase 2 includes a new building for 416 Long-Term Care Home beds to replace Grandview Lodge, Dawson Court, and Bethammi Nursing Home, followed by a further 32 Long-Term Care Home beds which will be added to the existing Hogarth Riverview Manor building.

“It's fantastic to see the start of construction on Phase 2 of this very special and complex project,” stated Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay - Superior North. “Our government is tremendously proud to support quality care and accommodations for seniors in our community. They deserve to have access to the very best accommodation and care, and this phase of the project, along with the new Sister Leila Greco Apartments, will improve the quality of life for not only our seniors, but for their families, too.”

Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay - Atikokan concurs, “This has been a project of great importance to many of us for quite some time. I am very pleased that we have reached this point and that very soon we will be positioned to provide additional quality modern care for our seniors in Thunder Bay and region.”

Total project cost for the initial 416 beds is $83.5 million. The General Contractor, Bondfield Construction, will be mobilizing crews on site over the next couple of weeks. The project is expected to be complete in approximately two years and is located on Lillie Street North, adjacent to Hogarth Riverview Manor.

“Once completed, this new, accessible building will provide our residents with the care and services they require in new environment that affords more privacy and space,” says Tracy Buckler, President & CEO, St. Joseph's Care Group.
