The Power of Small Acts: Celebrating SJCG's Volunteers
Date: 2025-04-29
In honor of National Volunteer Week, St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) is proud to celebrate volunteers like Sue Cottrell, who bring our values of Care, Compassion, and Commitment to life.
Sue has been volunteering with SJCG since July 2023, dedicating her time and her heart to supporting clients and staff both as a Friendly Visitor and as a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant. Sue believes in the benefits of volunteering, and in her words, "Seeing clients have fun and enjoy the activities keeps [her] motivated."
As a Friendly Visitor, Sue spends time with residents at Bethammi Nursing Home doing activities or just having a good conversation. She plays an important role in helping residents attend special events like the Sacred Fire at Sister Margaret Smith Centre, fostering connection and community.
Assisting the Therapeutic Recreationists, Sue brings activities with fun and purpose to residents. Her approach is to make every moment count, whether they're spending time outdoors enjoying nature, baking together, or crocheting together. "Singing Christmas songs is one of my favourite moments," says Sue. "Everyone knows the words to the songs, and their voices are so expressive. I love seeing everyone sing their hearts out!"
Sue embodies the values of Care, Compassion, and Commitment in everything she does at SJCG. Volunteers like Sue are not only essential to supporting our programs, but they also truly enrich the lives of our clients, bringing warmth and joy into their everyday experiences.
"I really enjoy what I do and I'm very grateful to be a volunteer with St. Joseph's Care Group," shares Sue.
A big thank you to Sue and all our incredible volunteers for the difference you make!
