International Self-Care Day - July 24 is International Self-Care Day. Described as a day to raise public awareness about the importance of self-care to stay both physically and mentally healthy, and also prevent or delay illness, it is gaining momentum around the globe. "Our society is go-go-go," says Catharine Tombs, a physiotherapist in the Neurology Outpatient Services at St. Joseph's Hospital. Affirming Our Commitment to Working with Indigenous Peoples - The day began with a traditional ceremony opening the Spiritual Gathering Lodge, Nigoos-aat-awin, led by Elder Ernie Kwandibens, an Elder from Whitesand First Nation. Harnessing the power of new technology to improve health and patient care in Northwestern Ontario - Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), in partnership with St. Joseph's Care Group (SJCG) and the Northwest Health Alliance (NWHA), unveiled their new, state-of-the-art regional data centre today. Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding - St. Joseph's Care Group has received just over $1 million dollars in Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding from the Ontario Government. The Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund helps hospitals to make much needed upgrades, improvements and repairs that are not a part of a hospital's operating funding. [full story]
