Care That's Right For You

Everyone's recovery journey is unique. That's why St. Joseph's Care Group offers a range of programs, services and partnerships to meet individual client goals and needs, wherever someone may be on their journey.

This article shares information about the services we offer to keep you safe during withdrawal and the supports available for when you are ready for recovery before and after treatment.

A Safe Place During Withdrawal

Addiction is a chronic disorder that affects the brain and behaviour. It is a complex medical condition with biological, psychological, and social components. During the acute phase of addiction, having access to safe withdrawal management is crucial. During the sobering process, the body will experience withdrawal symptoms as it adjusts to functioning without the substance. Some people (especially with underlying health conditions) may need hospital care or medically-supervised withdrawal management. Withdrawal Management is provided by St. Joseph's Care Group and is just one part of a broad range of services offered for people living with an addiction. Your stay with us is always voluntary and our services are provided in an environment that is caring, respectful and non-judgmental. Once the acute withdrawal phase has passed, we will help you with plans for discharge and can connect you to treatment support if that is your chosen path.

Supporting Your Recovery

Some of our treatment programs have a wait list which can be difficult for people who want to maintain their sobriety. Crossroads Centre can help with that need by offering abstinence-based before- and after-treatment recovery living. Clients have access to counselling and will build skills with the goal of regaining their independence. Clients can return to Crossroads after treatment to continue working on their goals.

Another program that extends care in recovery is our Transitional Housing at Lodge on Dawson. The Lodge provides a stable environment so clients can continue to develop and enhance healthy coping skills and life skills. Clients pay rent for their accommodations and are provided with assistance in finding safe, affordable long-term housing.

Cultural Safety

We want all Anishinaabek to feel culturally supported throughout every stage of their care at St. Joseph's Care Group. The Indigenous Health division N'doo'owe Binesi offers Traditional Healing, System Navigation, Counselling, and connection to Elders and Ceremony.

Peer Supports

Certified Peer Supporters are people who provide understanding, encouragement, and shared experience in addictions to people throughout their recovery journey. They complement professional treatment by adding a personal, non-clinical, relatable dimension to recovery efforts, enhancing motivation and improving overall outcomes.

Positive Changes in Addiction Care

The Ontario government recently announced funding for 15 safe sobering beds in Thunder Bay. These beds will become a part of our Withdrawal Management program, which will be relocating to 500 Oliver Road later this year.

Crossroads Centre will continue to operate at the Oliver Road site until renovations are completed at the former Balmoral Centre at 667 Sibley Drive.

When Crossroads Centre has moved to their new home, Our Withdrawal Management program will expand services at Oliver Road with the 15 new safe sobering beds.
