Withdrawal Management
Withdrawal Management at Balmoral Centre is a 25-bed, medically-supervised withdrawal management stabilization centre. Balmoral Centre provides a safe place for people 16 years+ to withdraw/detox from alcohol and other drugs. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We do not maintain a wait list, admissions occur as beds become available. There are no fees and staying is voluntary.
Care Provided at Balmoral Centre
Balmoral Centre provides medically supported withdrawal management services:
- Support and care during the acute stages of intoxication to safely withdraw from substances
- Stabilization, education and group programming
- Referrals and linkages for medical, counselling, addiction treatment, harm reduction and mental health services
- Individualized assessment for treatment planning
- Discharge planning in collaboration with community partners and services
- 24/7 RPN on-site
- Nurse Practitioner on-site 7 days per week
- Indigenous cultural services available
Admission Eligibility
Admission is based on individual need, bed availability and the following eligibility:
- Person must be admitted voluntarily
- Persons must be 16 years of age and older
- Person is conscious, ambulatory and medically stable
- Person is intoxicated, in active withdrawal or at high risk of relapse
- Person agrees to adhere to the guidelines and terms of service
Bed Availability
Call (807) 623-6515 to inquire if a bed is available. Staff will complete a quick screening over the phone to ensure it is safe for the individual to detoxify at the Centre. If an individual is referred or arrives at the Balmoral Centre with health concerns, they are referred for medical/psychiatric treatment to an Emergency department.

We can also arrange referrals for those who choose further treatment. There are options for addiction services to assist you in developing your treatment plan. This includes harm reduction, community-based addiction counselling, day treatment, residential treatment and longer term residential recovery programs.
