COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Testing

Rapid Antigen Testing for Long-Term Care Homes

In accordance with the Ministry of Long-Term Care Directive COVID-19: Long-Term Care Home Surveillance Testing and Access to Homes, Hogarth Riverview Manor and Bethammi Nursing Home will require Essential Caregiver Visitors and General Visitors to participate in a rapid antigen test up to a maximum of three times per week if they have not provided proof of being fully vaccinated.

What is Rapid Antigen Testing?

A rapid antigen test (also known as a point-of-care test) takes approximately 15 minutes to yield a result. The rapid antigen testing used by Oak Medical Arts will collect a sample using a lower nasal swab.

Testing Requirements

You must show proof of a negative rapid antigen test, as outlined below:

If you visit one to two times in a seven day period, you must show proof of a negative rapid antigen test on the day of entry, prior to being allowed into the home.

If you visit three or more times in a seven day period, you must show proof of three negative rapid antigen tests over the past seven days. A Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday/Satruday schedule will ensure you are always in compliance with the Directive.

Positive Rapid Antigen Test Result

If your rapid antigen test is positive, the Health Unit will be notified and you will need to book an appointment with the Assessment Centre for a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) nasopharyngeal test. You will receive further direction from public health if the PCR is positive. If the PCR is negative, you will need to show a new negative rapid antigen test on day of entry.

Rapid antigen testing is provided by Oak Medical Arts at four sites across Thunder Bay. They have a designated phone number (807) 344-4078 to book appointments, change or cancel appointments or ask questions. As well you can book online using the links in the table below.
